PART 1
Purpose
What are positive indicator test for proteins, carbohydrates, and fats?Do parts of an egg test positive for protein, carbs,and/or fat?
Materials
Eggs
Beaker, 250 ml Tubes, glass, 13x100 mm Gelatin
White vinegar peg racks for 13x100 mm Sodium hydroxide
plastic wrap tubes cupric sulfate 5-hydrate
slotted spoon Glucose (dextrose) oil
sodium chloride Benedict's solution sudan iv solution
Distilled water Hot plate stirrer scalpel handles, #4
Beaker, 100 ml test tube holder scalpel blades, #22 for #4 handles
pipets, 5 ml starch, soluble Trays, plastic
pipet pump, green Lugol's iodine solution
Vortex mixer
Procedure
1. Put egg into white vinegar and leave it for 24 to 48 hours while the egg dissolves.
2.pick up the egg with slotted spoon and rinse in water the shell should have dissolved
3.feel outer membrane then put it in a beaker of 5 % nacl solution for 24 hours describe
4.rinse off egg with water then put it in distilled water describe
5.gentle slice open eggs membranes and let egg white drip through slots of slotted spoon into 100 ml beaker without breaking egg yolk
6.place egg yolk into another beaker and set aside the egg membranes
PART 2
Monosaccharide Indicator Test
This is a test for glucose
1.First you need to heat water till it is boiling.
2.Second you need to mix 2 ml of 2% glucose and 2ml of benedict's solution in a test tube.
3. Then record all color changes and times they changed.
Test for water
1. In a test tube mix 2 ml of deionized water with 2 ml of benedict's solution
2.Heat for 2 minutes in a 100 ml's of water in a 250 ml beaker at 100 deg c record all color changes and amount of time for each color.
Starch Indicator standard test
This is a test for starch
1.In test tube mix 2 ml of well mixed starch suspension with .25 ml of lugol's iodine gently mix and record color changes
This is a test for water
1. In a test tube mix 2 ml of deionized water with .25 ml of lugol's iodine swirl to mix and record color change
Protein Indicator Standard Test
This test is for protiens
1. Add 2 ml of gelatin in a test tube
2. Then with goggles and gloves on put .5 ml of 10% NaOH and gently vortex to mix
3. Then add .25 ml of 5% copper solvate gently mix record color change after 30 seconds
This test is for water
1. Place 2 ml of deionized water in a test tube
2. Then wearing goggles and gloves put .5 ml of 10% NaHO and gently vortex mix
3. Add .25 ml of 5% CuSO4 mix well the record color change after 30 sec
Lipid Indicator Standard Test
This is a test for lipids
1.Place a drop of oil on a piece of brown paper bag
2.Let it dry for 10 minutes
3.Hold up paper bag to light record translucence or how much light comes through
This test is for water
1. Place drop of water on a piece of brown paper bag
2. Let it dry for 10 minutes
3. Hold up paper bag to light record translucence or how much light comes through
Part 3
Test for each egg component
1.Do each indicator test but substitute each egg component for the sugar, starch, protein, or fat in the test all amounts and conditions are the same don't add any of the standard solutions
2.Record results of the egg parts in a data table

First we set up and did positive and negative indicator tests. These tested for carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and starch. We then used the color changes to decide if it had a positive or negative color change. We used these indicator tests for the eggs. This allowed us to see if they were negative or positive with carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and starch.
1. The membrane had positive test result for lipids and protiens
2.Egg wights tested positive for carbs and protiens
3. The egg yolk tested positive for lipids
There are many factors that could have made our results less accurate like inaccurate measurements and other liquids mixed in. We also only inferred that the water be at 100 degrees Fahrenheit because it was boiling but we cant no for sure. We use these tests in the real world for telling the content of the food.
Reflection
I liked the color change of all the different materials.i need to take better notes. I also need to read the instructions before I start the test.I think my group did very well as a whole we all participated and helped each other when we needed it. We also never argued and had a lot of fun doing it together.
